This paper presents a historical reflection about “Frei Caneca” (1972, Carlos Queiroz Telles / Fernando Peixoto) e “Os Inconfidentes”, (1972, Joaquim Pedro de Andrade), as well as dicusses contours of political engagement of Art during the disturbed period of Brazilian military dictatorship (1964-1985). Film and play are analyzed in order to point the impact and troubles confronted by aesthetics and politics proposals of these artists.
